Howe Park Shooting Wounds Four People Injured in Arden-Arcade Sacramento
Law enforcement in Sacramento are working a get more info shooting that unfolded Saturday evening at Howe Community Park as authorities were dispersing a large unauthorized gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals.
What Led to the Shooting
Law enforcement first arrived at Howe Park at approximately 6:30 PM after learning of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Following that, a second call came in about a possible fight taking place within the park grounds.
Aerial units flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. Even so, authorities discovered that a massive group had gathered without authorization without permission.
When the Shots Rang Out
Deputies began the process of clearing the park by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems telling attendees to go home. Around 15 minutes were spent for the gathering to break up.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The sudden gunfire caused mass panic. Law enforcement immediately began finding those who had been shot.
Four Victims Hospitalized
Ultimately, four victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The four individuals — consisting of one woman and three men ranging in age through their in their 20s at the time of the incident — were brought to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Medical personnel stated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Fortunately, all four were in stable condition.
Metro Fire Sacramento assisted at the location and provided medical assistance shooting victims before they were taken to the hospital.
What Investigators Found
The center of the incident appears to have been concentrated adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor close to the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators identified further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on Cottage Way. Bullet damage were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing adjacent to the Home Depot store. These discoveries indicated that at least one of the shooters had been firing southward from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was secured under a brief lockdown while the scene was active. Crime scene technicians and detectives remained on scene well into the night.
Detainees in Solano County
Intelligence received via scanner audio established that a Kia vehicle was contacted by law enforcement in an area within Solano County. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for investigation. Surveillance footage showed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
